things to do in valencia in july 2021

This is part 1 of our monthly list of events, bars, restaurants and a handful of other things to do in this great city during the summer month of July.

Hard to believe but it’s already summer. A strange year to say the least and Valencia still hasn’t opened up all of its businesses, many clubs and festivals are either closed or have been postponed, but there are still things going on. We can put the lockdown behind us and cherish the present, from the exciting development of the Euros 2020, bathing in the hot sun that this city is known for, drinking cold beers and cocktails amongst friends, old and new, art exhibitions and weird little shops of wonders, here is out list of many to come, of things to do this month in the city of bats and good times. Here’s to the summer and to all of you coming here for memorable moments.

London Calling Exhibition at La Fundación Bancaja: British Artists from the 60s onwards.

We visited @fundacionbancaja this weekend to attend the #LondonCalling British artist exhibition and Francis Bacon x Lucian Freud. A selection of pieces from some of the most influential British artists hailing from the UK. From the colourful and simple paintings of the great #DavidHockney, to the sculptures of #RichardDeacon, the thought-provoking pieces of #YinkaShonibare, the pop-art of #JulianOpie and more. Then on the 4th floor we entered the mind of the grand provocateur #Francisbacon. A great little homage to a creative period for British art.

Refurbished Old Factory with A buzzing International Environment, Great Burgers and Cocktails Galore.

La Fábrica de Hielo, situated at Valencia’s Malvarossa’s beach front, this well-known bar is popular amongst locals and tourists alike for a reason. This repurposed Ice Factory has become one of the go-to places in town for drinks in the sun or inside the remarkably cool and industrial vibe of their spacious interior, surrounded by plants, brick walls, food trucks and a vibrant international atmosphere, you can come for burgers, live music, devilish cocktails all-around good time.

Have a Drink and arguably one of the best Tortillas in town at La Paca

La Paca may be small, but great things come in small packages, as some would say. This place is a magnet for the underground, artistic people of the up-and-coming neighbourhood of Cabanyal. If you know of this place, you’ll become a regular. To clench your thirst and even satisfy your appetite with, in our opinion, the best tortillas in town! No seriously, if you want to understand the local obsession with the potato-based dish, La Paca will make it clear. A great place to bring friends and make new ones along the way.

Feel that festival vibe that is missing this summer at La3Park! Music & Drinks in the Sun on Astroturf.

La3Park has brought the closest you’ll get to that feeling right here to Valencia. They even have a small pool to cool down in. Similar to the concepts of Brunch in the Park in Barcelona, this is a day of music and fun, but when the sun sets, it’s down to the club to continue the party until nighttime. Have Fun at the Fun Fair in Turia’s Riverbed | Until 05/08

A summer isn’t complete without a funfair. Walking amongst the colourful lights, surrounded by the sound of joyful screams from those brave enough to go on the trampoline and attractions that test the strength of your stomach, stuffing your face with sugary treats on a stick (probably not a good idea to do the latter before going on the aforementioned rides), trying to win a prize from the shooting stands, assessing your strength at the punching machine and, if you’re Tom Hanks, making a wish at the Zoltar machine to be big. The Funfair of Valencia started in June and will be in the Turia riverbed until the 5th of August, from 6.30pm until the early hours of the morning (1am and 2am/weekdays and weekends).

Movie Soundtracks played by a Quarter by Candlelight inside the BioParc on a summer night’s eve? Sounds dreamy.

Taking place inside the beautiful grounds of the BioParc, the music of Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer, Jame Horner and other legendary movie composers will be played by a quartet at the Candlelight Open Air. An evening of movie soundtracks by candlelight, a perfectly fitting combination and a great plan for a summer’s eve. There will be 2 events taking place this summer, the first on July 16th, and the second on August 19th, both at 9pm. Entrance starts from 15€, not a bad price for 65 minutes of some of the most iconic and memorable pieces of movie music bliss. This is one of various thematic nights on offer from the quartet, another being a tribute to Anime music. Check out their program and availability here.

Get a Keyring made at Star Toys. Buy whichever figurine or toy you like, and the owner will make it into a keyring for just 1€ more.

Whether you were born in the 80s, 90s or even the early 00s, you’re bound to have owned at least 1 of the many toys and figurines the proud owner of Star Toys has on sale at his small but jammed-pack toy shop. So many figurines you wouldn’t be cable to count, a burst of colour that will take you back down memory lane, and you’ll remember the treasures and trinkets of your youth. What makes this toy shop special however, is that for just 1 extra euro, whichever toy you buy can be made into a keyring to keep your keys gathered together with something that is “you”. We opted for one of the Thompson brothers from Tintin.

Enjoy a Real Italian Pizza and an even more Italian Dessert!

Not many pizza places in town can proudly boast about being open for 13 years and still going strong. Still being a place that feels like it has the energy of a new joint, the enthusiasm of the new kid on the block, but with the experience and savoir faire of a master of its craft. Mangiamo is an absolute gem for lovers of Italian cuisine and ingredients. With 24 pizzas on their menu, each one as good as the other, this cozy and welcoming establishment will make you feel like you’re in Italy, especially when you order dessert… our recommendation is the amaretti tart with ricotta cheese.
